This has been a school year unlike any other and School Nurses everywhere are demonstrating how good they are with an important nursing skill – flexibility! As your local CSNO section we are here to help provide support, resources and a unified voice as School Nurses navigate this unchartered territory.

It is an honor to be serving as the Section President for the Central Coast. Our section was formed last year to help provide a network and forum for the School Nurses in our area, many of whom work for small districts without the support of many, or any, other School Nurses. While our current shutdowns and restrictions prevent us from meeting together in person we will be holding Section Zoom gatherings every other month on the 2nd Thursday at 6:00 PM. Our first gathering will be on January 14th and I hope to see many of you there. This forum will give us the opportunity to meet to learn how to best support and advocate for the students and staff of the communities we work with. Additionally, we will have the opportunity to collaborate, practice some self-care and develop a supportive community. All section members are also invited to join our Zoom board meetings which at the same time on the alternate months. The meeting links are in our calendar.

Our section has opportunities for anyone who wants to get involved. For those of us who joined the board last year, we have all found the rewards have been a strong local, as well as statewide, network and so much more. We have several open positions on our board including a need to elect a President Elect for the 2021-23 term (followed by the role of President 2023-25 and Past President 2025-27). Also, if you have a passion for any project or just want to help, we would love to have you volunteer whatever time you would like to invest with our section. To volunteer or nominate a candidate click on the Nomination form under the Leadership tab. Nominations are due January 14, 2021.

This year our statewide 71st Annual CSNO Conference will be happening online from February 3-6. While it will be a different type of experience, we have been hard at work to ensure you will enjoy and get a lot of value from attending the conference virtually.

As we prepare for the conference our section needs to select awardees of the Excellence in School Nursing and Excellence in School Nursing Administration awards. Click here for the nomination forms or go to the Awards & Scholarships tab above. Please get your nominations in so we can honor our peers who are making a difference. Nominations are due by January 15, 2021.

I look forward to getting to know more of you as we gather virtually throughout the school year. Please remember to take care of yourself and stay healthy and safe.
